PRESS: Consumer rights watchdog to join suit against Apple

MOSCOW, Apr 15 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Service for Oversight of Consumer Rights Protection, and Human Welfare will join a lawsuit against the local branch of Apple, Apple Rus, after the U.S. company suspended sales of its products in the country, daily Izvestiya reported on Friday.

“The Presnensky District Court of Moscow has accepted for consideration a lawsuit by the Public Consumer Initiative against the Russian branch of U.S. company Apple, Apple Rus. The public institution requests to find illegal the actions of the respondent that suspended import, sale, and technical maintenance of products in Russia, oblige the company to stop these actions, and arrest the accounts and property of the subsidiary,” the daily said, quoting the statement.

A spokesperson for the consumer rights watchdog confirmed to the daily that it had notified the court about joining the case to give a conclusion.

The initiative’s head Oleg Pavlov said the court will hold the first session shortly.

Apple suspended Russian sales in early March because of the special military operation in Ukraine.
